Wendy Jo New Metal Designs

Bio

I am Wendy Jo New and I am the owner, designer, fabricator, and marketer of Wendy Jo New Metal Designs.  I produce fine contemporary jewelry and other metal designs primarily in the precious metals of gold, silver, palladium, and platinum. These are often further defined with the addition of texturing, gemstones and other unique lapidary, or resin inlay. I also manufacture photo-etched metal jewelry and etched cover plates that are attached to journals or are framed--wedding invitations, bar and bat mitzvah invitations, baby announcements, and the like.  "Clean. Crisp. Geometric. Architectural.  Subtle elegance."  This is how my work has been described by visitors to my show booths, galleries in which my work is sold, and by clients who have commissioned me to make custom pieces.  When designing jewelry or other metal work, I always think about whether I would wear it, use it, and/or display it. Anyone who knows me sees a reflection of me in what I design.  Designing and fabricating engagement and wedding bands and other custom jewelry, often with people’s stones, is particularly meaningful me and, of course, the clients.

I also teach metalsmithing classes--full semester-long course, weekend workshops, specialty 1-day workshops, private lessons, and now also virtual workshops.

Prior to this now full-time second career, I worked in the field of education.  After teaching, working as an educational therapist and in research in special education, I spent the rest of my career working on national policy for Title I, the largest federally funded elementary and secondary program--in Washington DC and then consulting nationally on same issues after moving to the Boston area.
